History of Stonebriar Farm

Dating back over 170 years the farm is still in operation today.

The original 200 acre lot was first owned by Duncan McRae of Scotland in 1840. In 1850, his widow Annie sold the lot to Hon. Alexander Fraser, a member of Parliament in 1830. The Frasers divided the lot on a North/South division and in 1855, Malcom McRae became owner of the Northern 100 acres. John MacQueen bought the Northern 100 acres in 1869, making the lot another Century Farm. John MacQueen and his wife Margaret were born in Scotland and arrived in Canada about 1859. The MacQueen family moved into the McRae's log house but later built a much larger brick house. When John MacQueen died his son Kenneth inherited the property. Adam MacQueen and his wife Maude continued in general farming once Adam inherited the property in 1936. Maude died in March 1965 and is buried at the Dunvegan Cemetery and Adam is a resident of Maxville Manor. The farm land is now operated by his nephew Beverly MacQueen.
